ATIR Workshops
This two-day workshop will focus on the assessment and treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and symptoms using a model of Neuro-developmental Art Therapy (NDAT) that utilizes the integrative capacity of the brain.
Developed by the presenter, NDAT is a model of treatment based on neurobiology, development and the pychological reactions to traumatic stress. A specific drawing treatment intervention will be offered for acute, incident based trauma such as physical injuries, exposure to or witnessing violence, motor-vehicle accidents, and other acute traumatic events. Using simple drawing media, the intervention is designed to help children remember, express, and integrate acute traumatic episodes. The outcome research demographics and results will be presented for the intervention.
A portion of the workshops will be devoted to early developmental trauma, and attachment based art therapy assessment and treatment for young children and caregivers. Specific art and play interventions will be presented to facilitate attachment, with an emphasis is on facilitating parent-child interaction.
The application of the model to long term therapy for repeated exposure to traumatic stress will be presented in a four stage treatment protocol with specific art therapy interventions. Fascinating examples of how to bringing neurobiology to the clinical setting will be offered that utilize the non-verbal output of the right hemisphere and the integrative capacity of the brain.
There will be opportunities for experiential learning through experimentation with simple art media. All activities are designed to be safe and private.
