ATIR Workshops
The very young child often baffles even the experienced clinician, with a limited or lack of language, short attention span, and abundant motor activity. Greater numbers of young children are at risk from violence, abuse, and multiple transitions and losses, and attachment problems. New approaches to assessing and treating this population will be presented, along with methods of engaging young children and parents in the therapeutic process.
The course focuses on the use of art media and toys in the assessment and treatment of children from infancy through the preschool years. Lectures and case presentations demonstrate the use of art therapy and play therapy for a variety of presenting problems. Materials covered include early intervention strategies for infants and parents for attachment disorders, trauma, abuse, illness and hospitalization and witnessing or experiencing violence.
Experimentation with art media allows attendees to learn methods of engaging young children in art and play activities and how to facilitate expression and healing. No prior art training required.
