ATIR Workshops
This workshop features the therapeutic use of art and imagery with adolescents and participants will learn ways to facilitate expression, awareness and change with this often resistant and challenging population.
Beginning with the latest information on adolescent brain development, the workshop will offer methods of assessment, engaging teens in therapy, and directive and non-directive approaches to treatment for a variety of issues including traumatic stress, abuse, violence, grief and loss, substance abuse, and and behavioral and emotional problems. A portion of the course will focus on ways to promote identity in adolescence, the most important task in adolescent development. Participants will learn how to create and facilitate effective art therapy groups with teens, including how to handle resistance, defiance, and a variety of other challenging group situations.
Lecture and case presentations be utilized to present the material that will apply to a variety of adolescent populations including psychiatric facilities, schools and medical hospitals.
Safe, non-threatening experimentation with art media allows the participants to gain practical knowledge in the use of art with adolescents.
