Incident Based Trauma: Treating Disaster & Loss

This workshop is designed to offer mental health providers knowledge and skills in using art therapy and play therapy in the assessment and treatment of incident based trauma, disasters, and other acute traumatic events.

The material presented will include an overview of the physical and psychological reactions to traumatic experiences, the reactions of children across the developmental spectrum, and treatment issues specific to this type of treatment. Additionally, material will be offered related to death and loss, and a variety of treatment tools and strategies will be offered for children, adolescents, and families.

Objectives:

Attendees will learn to:

• Describe children’s reactions to disaster and loss,

• Describe a variety of treatment issues typically presented when treating disaster and loss

• Describe specific treatment interventions for acute trauma

Workshop fees: Workshop fees are $160 per day, and include all handouts, art supplies, lunch, and morning and afternoon snacks.  CE Credits are available for an additional $25, our direct cost.
